Performance coaching isn’t always about strategy.
Sometimes… it starts with a positive lie.
Here’s how I used NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) to shift a client from self-doubt to sales
excellence
Client Profile:
High-performer. Brilliant ideas.
But zero confidence in closing sales.
His body language? Unsure.
His self-talk? Brutal.
My NLP-Based Approach:
I used a technique called “presupposition anchoring.”
Here’s what we did:
- He repeated this “lie” daily:
- “I close deals with ease.”
- “People trust my voice.”
- “Confidence is my default.”
- We used a physical anchor (thumb + finger press) to embed this message.
- We rehearsed it for 21 days, twice a day.
According to Stanford research, positive self-talk can boost task performance by 10-15%.
Results After 4 Weeks:
- Voice became clearer and firmer
- Confidence in client meetings doubled
- Sales conversions increased 2x
- Internal feedback was overwhelmingly positive
The client told me:
“The more I lied to my brain, the more it started believing it was true.”
And that’s the power of NLP — it rewires the subconscious through repetition and emotion
